Christine Hurley Deriso
An
Inspiration Speaker to Fuel Children’s Dreams
Christine Hurley Deriso, an
award-winning author of children’s books and tween novels, is available
for readings, book signings, presentations and workshops for schools,
libraries, bookstores, civic groups, writing groups, church groups and
other organizations.
Christine, a resident of North Augusta, South Carolina and a 1983 graduate
of the University of Georgia College of Journalism, has written
professionally for more than twenty-five years. Her work includes:
• Book-Writing: Her award-winning children’s book, Dreams to Grow On, was
followed by tween novels Do-Over and The Right-Under Club.
• Magazine Journalism: Christine has written feature articles, humor
columns and inspirational essays for magazines including Ladies’ Home
Journal, Parents, Family Circle and Child.
• Newspaper Journalism: Christine began her career as a reporter for The
Augusta Chronicle.
• Public Relations and Marketing: Christine has served as publications
editor of the Medical College of Georgia since 1988.
• Critique Journalism: Christine was The Augusta Chronicle’s restaurant
critic from 1998 to 2005.
Christine’s approximately forty-minute presentations consist of lively,
informal and inspirational interaction with audiences of all ages. She
offers four categories of presentations:
Presentation for Preschoolers: A lively series of readings from
Christine’s collection of rhyming, rhythmic stories. Children invariably
react to her vividly rendered stories with delight and rapt attention. As
she reads, she discusses how the children can use their imagination to
fuel their dreams.
Presentation for Elementary Schoolchildren: A discussion, complemented
with readings from Christine’s collection, of how children can tap into
their talents and interests to fuel their dreams. Christine emphasizes the
importance of school, reading and imagination.
Presentation for Middle- and High-School Students: This presentation
consists mainly of writing tips, with exciting and immediately applicable
ways to enhance any future career by refining writing and communication
skills.
Presentation for Adults: Exciting and immediately applicable ways to
enhance writing and communication skills, or information about helping
children fuel their dreams.
